Mandatory mentions on a construction quote (2026 list)

A construction quote is a legal document. If a mandatory mention is missing, it can be deemed non-compliant — and a missing mention can cost up to €1,500 in fines (source: economie.gouv.fr).

Depending on the level of detail, there are 15 to 18 mentions. Here is the complete list, by category, up to date for 2026 — with a PDF checklist to print out.

The 4 categories of mentions

  1. General mentions (the quote itself)
  2. Your company
  3. The client
  4. The offer (the works and their price)

1. General mentions

  • The word "Devis"
  • The date of issue
  • The validity period (without it, you remain bound by the price indefinitely)
  • Whether the quote is free or paid

2. Your company

  • Company name and legal form (auto-entrepreneur, sole trader, limited company, etc.)
  • Address and contact details (phone, e-mail)
  • SIRET number
  • Registration with the Répertoire des métiers (RM) (Trades Directory) or the RCS (Trade and Companies Register)
  • Intra-EU VAT number (or the mention "TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI" under the VAT exemption)
  • Assurance décennale (ten-year liability insurance): insurer and geographical zone covered — required by the loi Spinetta (the Spinetta Act)

3. The client

  • The client's name / company name and address
  • The place where the works are carried out (if different)

4. The offer (works and price)

  • A detailed description of each service: materials (brand/reference), quantities, unit prices excl. VAT, labour
  • The total excl. VAT, the VAT rate and amount (20 / 10 / 5.5 %), the total incl. VAT
  • Any travel costs
  • The mention on waste management (mandatory since 1 July 2021 for construction, renovation or demolition): estimated quantities, removal arrangements, collection points and costs

The handwritten mention and the signature

The quote becomes a contract as soon as it is signed, together with the handwritten mention:

"Devis reçu avant l'exécution des travaux — Bon pour accord" (Quote received before the works are carried out — Approved for agreement), dated and signed by the client.

To this are added the payment terms (deposit, payment schedule, late-payment penalties) and, for a private client, information about the consumer mediator (médiateur de la consommation).

Penalties for omissions

A missing mandatory mention exposes you to a fine of up to €1,500 — not to mention the risk of a dispute with the client. Compliance is not optional.
